Blog #15: Independent Component 1.

Literal

"I, Norma Lopez, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 30 hours of work."

I completed 64 hours of work by planning ASB events. Being Vice-President of E-Board allowed me to be part of the planning of both Scare Faire and Winter Formal. The work I did not count during elective, my 64 hours of work were completed both in lunch and free block as well as home. Planning these both events became my job for several of weeks; from planning the set up of Scare Faire, the games, and the prizes during October, which became one of the most successful Scare Faire we have had at iPoly. As well as several weeks planning for the most difficult event of the school year, Winter Formal; from picking the venue, theme, decorations, invitations, and ticket sales of a successful Winter Formal, was how I completed my first Independent Component.

Interpretive

My Independent Component consisted of a lot of work and stressed, I really got to feel of an actual event planner. I got the opportunity to get hands-on experience on planning school wide events. The following log shows every hour and every minute I put of my time to these events to accomplish successful events. Winter Formal was the most work due to the fact that E-Board was the only one in charge of it, I completed 54 hours on just planning formal besides elective. From calling venues with the help of ASB to find a place for Formal in late December to actually going to visit the places with the rest of E-Board and making sure we had to budget to afford it was how the planning of Winter Formal started. After all of that we became closer to the date, and stress became my best friend; from selling tickets during breaks, making sure we weren't missing a dime and making deposits in time. To making those time-consuming center pieces, ordering decorations, making sure we had the entertainment and the royal court stuff done on time. The evidence of my work is clearly proven by both events being success, all the hard work paid off at the end.

Applied

What is most important on being a successful event planner?

Throughout this project I became more aware that my Independent Component truly showed me how event planners worked, being organized and being able to manage your time became some of the most important factors on successfully planning an event and being a good event planner. I got to get experience and gain knowledge about actually planning an event, it was practice. I may not be able to answer my essential question with just my Independent Component but I got a feel about what truly is important in order to be a successful event planner, and having experience in the field is always a start to being able plan more events in the future.
